Hawaiian authorities are preparing for a substantial increase in the casualty count resulting from the rapidly advancing wildfires. These fires have brought about widespread destruction on Maui Island and laid waste to the majority of the renowned Lahaina historic town.

Governor Josh Green of Hawaii remarked that these fires stand as the “most extensive natural catastrophe in the history of Hawaii state.” He noted that about 80% of the seaside town has been obliterated. The extent of the damage became immediately apparent through satellite imagery.
